CHAMP meeting for September 15, 2008

In Attendance: Mamadou Ndiaye, Dan Veroff, Bill Buckingham, Pam McGranahan and Suzanne Gaulocher

1. MA/WIC map:
Bill and Mamadou met separately with Cheryl Robinson (WIC) regarding mapping MA/WIC/Birth data. The WIC program needs to spend some money on research that is related to infant mortality and race and Cheryl wants to pursue Pam’s idea of making the MA/WIC/Birth map. The group talked about how this map will be the first in our goal of developing a ‘Proof of Concept’ & informing practice.

Mamadou said that part of APL’s task may be to educate us in certain aspects of this work, specifically: 1) how to use maps meaningfully (as a tool), 2) help people (at PHMDC and other entities) know how to read a map and 3) unpack significance of data.

Pam said that the utility of the map would help the agency address needs. Where people live (geography) – is where things happen.

2. PHN map:
The PHN map will be our second “Proof of Concept”:

PHN map needs school boundaries.

We talked about how we will map these data – especially the qualitative data. Dan and Bill had some ideas about overlaying a base map with different data for all of Dane County. We will also add things like rental/ownership, crime, tax assessments, etc... We need a monetary figure from APL for doing this work. Suzanne and Pam to follow up with PHMDC.

For the PHN map, we want to add:
What geographic area does a PHN cover?
What does each PHN feel they can manage (geographically)?

Tasks:
Nurses need to pick their top five priorities from a preexisting list – Suzanne will follow up with PHNs...
