Utility of Research

CHAMP Goal:
To combine: 1) population-based data, 2) qualitative assessment of the built/natural environment and 3) community input about health at the neighborhood level in order to better understand the multiple determinants of health and to address both the social and environmental causes of health disparities.
CHAMP Statement:
The Community Health Assessment Mapping Partnership is a transdisciplinary group that will integrate multiple methods to collect and track data to create an interactive community health map. CHAMP will develop a model that will translate findings back to practitioners, researchers, policy makers and communities.

Research Responsibility
Break up into teams – identify what our responsibilities are and how they fit within our current job descriptions.
How are we going to use this/these map(s)?
It is clear from our conversations that we all agree that the map needs to be meaningful. We need to ask ourselves:
What is the purpose of using a map?
How will we use the map?
What kind of information do we intend to convey?
To who?

Identify a database
For this post, please share ideas and suggestions for a database. According to Mamadou, it is unlikely that the public health website could host an interactive map. It sounds like the website wasn't designed to interact with a database.
What do you all think about building onto the PPM website? Belle and I had a conversation yesterday and generated some ideas - but I'm thinking PPM is a part of CHAMP, rather than the other way around. Thoughts?

CHAMP Blog Started
The blog is all setup. The active members of the group have author access. If someone can't post and they should be able to we can add them to the list. Comments are also restricted, just to ensure that we don't have to filter random comments that don't belong. Happy Blogging!
